Elaine Lustig Cohen Marble Extension Table

12,000.00

$12,000

United States
circa 1956

Large International style extension dining table with a beautifully figured Carrara marble slab sitting atop a steel framework with four tubular chrome legs. With two walnut extensions that slot in from the sides, each with a single tubular chrome detachable medial leg. The marble table itself measures L 90" x D 40"; each extension adds 23.5". This table appears in the Elaine Lustig Cohen apartment in 1956 photographs (see attached), and is similar to tables designed for residential projects Elaine worked on with her first husband, Alvin Lustig (ref: the Segal residence, 1952; the Wilheim apartment, 1955). The juxtaposition of the wooden extensions, with the centered leg, adds a dynamic graphic element, whether one or both extensions are used. Overall length is 137". Provenance: the estate of Arthur and Elaine Lustig Cohen.

Condition
Fine vintage condition with some chips and scratches to the marble, and some wear to the chrome, all consistent with age and use. The walnut has been refinished.
