Box-in-a-box-in-a-box of highly figured Oregon birdseye maple burl by master woodworker Michael Elkan, produced in 1983. Elkan opened his Oregon studio in 1980, and created wooden furniture and accessories until turning to other pursuits in 2002. His accessories were sold by George Nakashima in the early 1980's, and are collected by Robert Plant, Carly Simon, Val Kilmer, Dan Rather, and Jack Lenor Larsen, among others. He is the author of "Reading the Wood: Projects from a Master Woodworker" (1990). Branded mark with date. Measurements are of the largest box.
