1983

Small but vivid work by San Francisco Bay artisan Robert McKeown (1931-1989). A graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts, McKeown was a color theorist and woodworker who won acclaim for his innovative resin inlays on a range of utilitarian objects. The present box, with a groove for coil stamps, is constructed of walnut and Macassar ebony. The top features graduated multicolored lines composed of resin and wood inlays, a process that took days to complete, as each band of resin had to dry before the next was applied. In fine original condition, with full markings and date (1983) on bottom.

Condition
Fine condition with only very minor wear consistent with age and use.
