Hinged, free-edged box of burled box elder, with segmented interior, by master woodworker Michael Elkan. Elian opened his Oregon studio in 1980 and created wooden furniture and accessories until turning to other pursuits in 2002.  His accessories were sold by George Nakashima in the early 1980's and have been collected by Robert Plant, Carly Simon, Val Kilmer, Dan Rather, and Jack Lenor Larsen, among others.  He is the author of "Reading the Wood: Projects from a Master Woodworkert" (1990) With a laid-in studio card.

Condition
Excellent vintage condition with only very minor wear consistent with age and use.  Has been re-waxed.
