"Moon Box #2", an impressive new work in blackened and patinated steel with fused bronze, by Des Moines, Iowa, artist James Bearden. The sculpturally abstract hinged box, which is raised on a pedestal base, opens onto a shelved interior, and has the surface texture of a lunar landscape. In a brilliant new twist, the hinges on this box have been given the aspect of a random extrusion, fitting seamlessly into the overall topography of the surface. Bearden's work was featured in a 2017 solo exhibition at the NY Design Center titled "James Bearden: Life in Steel"; in an article in the January 2017 Interior Design Magazine; in an introspective feature on 1stdibs; and in a feature article in DSM Magazine, a Des Moines publication.
