Hand-built canister of hammered, shaped, and welded steel, with cork inner lid, by Greek-born, Paris-based sculptor Philolaos Tloupas (1923-2010). Considered one of the greatest Greek artists of the twentieth century, Philaoas is best known for his steel sculptures, furniture, and fountains. The present work is part of a series of accessories that included bottles, spice jars, and footed vases, made by Philalaos, circa 1970. According to Piasa Auction in Paris, which sold items from the Philaloas estate in 2013, these objects were made in an edition of ten each. Stamped "Philaloas Made in France" underneath. Good. Fine original structural condition. Wear to the metal, including some pitting, consistent with age and use.
