1955

Wall plaque of hand-painted hydrostone (a hard plaster) by California designer and artist Evelyn Ackerman, signed and dated 1955. A rare Ackerman work in this material, done before the later success of Era Industries, her design business with husband Jerome. The Ackermans work figured prominently in the 1960s "California Design" series, and has been the subject more recently of museum exhibitions in California and a monograph by Pointed Leaf Press. The present work, which looks like an abstract take on the classical three muses theme, came from the estate of the original owner, who purchased (or received) it directly from the Ackermans. Hand-written "For George" on the back.
