Paul Mayen Glass Table Lamp (SOLD)

1,400.00

United States
circa 1960

Spherical lamp with three chrome rods by Cooper Union-educated designer Paul Mayen, produced circa 1959. In the early 1950s, Mayen helped form the Habitat company to supply suitable lighting to architect-designed modern houses. This is the relatively rare hand-blown glass version of one of his iconic designs in plastic--the glass globes were discontinued in the early 1960s due to breakage in shipping and production costs. Still, the glass version, with its warmer light, was a MoMA Good Design selection and remains in the museum's permanent collection.

Condition
Excellent. Fine original condition with only minor wear to the chrome rods, consistent with age and use..
