||Josef Twirbutt Wall Sculpture
Abstract wall relief of sawn, stained, and collaged wood by Lithuanian-born American artist Josef Twirbutt. A practicing architect as well as artist, Twirbutt arrived in New York City in 1959 and plugged into the Village art scene. He created his wall sculptures in the 1960's and 1970's. Large-scale projects included a masonry mural at 1 Police Plaza. HIs work has been exhibited in galleries and shows in New York, California, Texas, Ohio, and Connecticut, as well as in Spain, Italy, and Mexico. The present work is from the artist's collection. Signed and dated 1970.
