Larry Weinberg is a graduate of Amherst College and an alumnus of the Hagley Program, University of Delaware. He has studied and worked at numerous museums, including Historic Deerfield, Strawbery Banke, and the Brooklyn Museum. In 1994, he co-founded the Lin-Weinberg Gallery, which became one of New York City’s premiere showcases of vintage modernist furnishings. Lin-Weinberg participated annually in Sanford Smith’s Modernism show, and it hosted a number of design exhibitions, notably the blockbuster 1997 show entitled “Edward Wormley: The Other Face of Modernism.” Larry has recently worked as a private curator of modern design, as a principal in the design gallery 4 PM LLC, and as a collaborator on design projects with 2Michaels Design. In addition, Larry writes a blog for Interior Design Magazine. New posts appear every Thursday.
Larry has been a long-term curator for a couple with a keen interest in mid-century design. He has worked with these clients to find furnishings and decorative arts that both enliven their spaces and enhance their collections. In addition to selection, vetting, and procurement of objects, Larry has provided design and inventory management services, including the creation and maintenance of a digital database. Projects have included a modernist house and guest house in Montauk, a beachfront cottage in Martha’s Vineyard, a Richard Neutra house in Pacific Palisades, and a residence in Michigan.
In Joan and Jayne Michaels of 2Michaels Design, Larry found designers who shared his passion for vintage modern design. Joan has become his partner in life, and he has collaborated with 2Michaels on several projects, including an apartment of Park Avenue, a loft in Tribeca, and a “green” show house in Sagaponack.
Weinberg Modern returns Larry to his roots as a dealer and collector of modern design, providing a platform for both his aesthetic vision and scholarship.
