"Construct," a 1965 welded steel sculpture by French sculptor Alain Douillard (b. 1923). Possibly a maquette for an outdoor work. Douillard studied classical sculpture at the Beaux-Artes des Nantes, turning to abstraction in the early 1950's. He remained in Normandy throughout his life, forgoing Paris and representation in the larger art world. His first American show took place at the Magen Gallery in 2010. The present work is illustrated in the catalog of that show, "Allain Douillard: Le Forgeron du Fer."
